Art for Theater, Set Design
Church platform turned into a theater stage for the youth actors
Here are a few images of the set that we created for the young actors at the youth performing arts camp. It took the entire week to design and place it. Pastor Mitch Camp cut the flats to the shape we designed and then they were painted to look like a rustic tour boat on the Nile. The painting was done by young people under my supervision. I did a lot of painting also. Unfortunately I was too busy to take many photos and the stage was struck within an hour of the performance.

We had many points of humor around

It felt humbling and an honor to be able to help the young people in their camp. I hope that some who worked on the stage were inspired to use their gifts and talents for God and others.

Watercolor Painting Forest Path and Bridge
This is a quick study of a bend in the path by my house. I go up the path often and every time it is unique and fresh.
This was done in watercolor on 120 lb paper, the size is about 5x8. I spent only about an hour on it, since the daylight was fading and the shadows were moving quickly.
I feel that I was trying to do too much in this painting. At first I was intrigued by the tree and how its branches wrapped around making a little portal for the path to snake through and lead to the bridge. Then I wanted to do more with the bridge and then I wanted to develop the background. I think by holding back I made it into a good composition.
I got a little caught up with the bridge and the background. I struggled with the texture of the forest leaves and the many different greens in the forest. I felt the values were a little too flat so when I got home I lifted some of the color from the background; I knew there were problems when I painted it and kept trying to make the foreground tree darker but was afraid of making muddy colors.
I used a broad bush for the under-painting and then my smallest brush to develop the trees and leaves. I finished with a signature brush for the fine lines in the trunk of the near tree.
I think that even though it is a nice painting it will be only a study for a future project maybe in oils.

Cone flowers hand made print by Adron
Cone Flowers Art.
Cone Flowers hand made print for sale.
I find that it takes me about a day to print 10 of these by traditional hand methods. It is a joy to see each one when I pull the paper off of the last plate. I hope it will be a joy for others.
I redid this as a digital image for my society6 store. You can see it here.

St. Francis Of Assisi, A New View, Print by Adron for sale
St Francs A new View, Print by Adron for sale by artist.
Here is a hand made print of "St, Francis of Assisi, a new view." I call it a new view because after reading his biography I became convinced that St Francis was a joyful even playful though devout person. All the images of him are very pious and reverent but I search in vain for an image of him with a smile. So I created my own. He is smiling gently with a contentment that comes from piety and the inner joy that comes from faith. In his hand is a sparrow. This composition went through several versions before I got it to where I was happy with it.
This is a "Cut Block Print." I cut the foam block with knives and mount it to acrylic sheet. Using commercial ink I roll ink on the block and press paper onto it. This is the traditional print method. The paper is Green that is made out of recycled content but still is acid-free.
This can be purchased at my Society6 store see the link to the right.

SUNFLOWER HAND MADE PRINT 14X11
Sunflower Print by Artist Adron
This handmade print of a sunflower is a real beauty.
It takes 5 blocks to run a project like this one plate for each color. I carve the blocks by hand. With each new block I have to keep going back to make sure they will all register correctly so the picture won't have large gaps and huge color overlaps. I have to ink each block and print them individually on the paper and make sure they are dry before I go to the next color. Since I am doing these by hand it takes a long time. It took a day to print 10 and I had to discard two for smudges.
I have a revised version this in watercolor and acrylic at my online art store. You can see it here.

Celtic Cross Hand Made 14x11 Print by Adron
Here is a project I worked on for a couple of weeks. It is a "wood cut" print except I used an acrylic sheet to cut it this is the 21st century anyway. Though I used modern materials the technique is still the traditional approach of cutting an image in a surface, rolling ink over it and pressing paper to it to transfer the ink to the paper thus making a mirror image of the plate.
The design took a long time to work out and I made a few trips to the internet and book sources to get the classic Celtic shape and then tried to design original knot motif. I say tried - you will recognize at least two classic Celtic knots patterns.
I redid this print on watercolor paper and then converted it as a digital print for my online store.
You can see it and purchase one at my online store.
