Eliots Oak Bike Path Original Oil Painting on Canvas

Painting of the bike path off of Eliots Oak Rd. in Columbia MD. Oil on 11 x 14 canvas.  I walk down this path often it is one of my favorite places. There is a bridge and these cool huge boulders.  The path passes a play ground and enters a wood.  I painted this picture over several weeks were I took my easel and canvas to the spot and worked on it; I finished it in my studio. The greens and blues are a livid contrast to the warm browns of the boulders.

This painting would be a beautiful addition to any collection of fine art. Price is $175.00. Get in touch with me to arrange to see this in my home studio or to get a quote on shipping.

Books, Box, and Maddy. Still life in Modern Style, for sale by artist

Oil on 16x20 Canvas. A classic theme treated in a contemporary manner.

This is one of my favorite still life paintings. It includes a cameo of my daughter Maddy.  It is fun for me to intorduce a little portrait in a painting since it makes the still life more personal, especially if other elements of the painting are connected somehow in the life of the person it becomes more than a still life and more than a portrait.

In this the paint is applied heavy with bright colors and deep shadows. Here I am treating a still life almost like a landscape. It is a beautiful painting.

Price is $400.00 Contact me if you want to see this in my home studio, or for a quote on shipping.

Here is a still life I painted. It is a nice simple composition. It has an arrangement of simple everyday items off set by an antique art deco lamp. There is a portrait in the background of a child.

Still life paintings are a classic subject and this will be a wonderful addition to any collection.

Painting of San Leandro Church Oil on Canvas for sale by Artist

This is an oil painting on 16x24 canvas. I painted it some time ago. It is one of my favorites. It is of an old church building in San Leandro where I used to live. It had huge trees with these fat tree trunks that must have been over a hundred years old. I always loved looking at it when ever I went past. I painted it in a stylized impressionist approach. I layered complementary dashes of paint over an under-painting.It is a brilliant picture.

San Leandro Church. Price $450.00. Contact me through the comments feature to arrange an appointment to see this at my basement studio, or for a quote on shipping.

Watermill. Painting in oil.

This is one of my favorite paintings. It took a long time to paint. I painted it in my basement studio. It is oil on 12x24 canvas. It is a watermill beside a rock lined creek and trees with Autumn colors behind it.  It is representational.

I started with a watermill from a decades old calender and added a country scene to complete it. I am very pleased with it. I have had paintings this size and of the same complexity sell at auction for charity for $1,000.00 and more.

I hope it finds a loving home.

The price on this is $700.00. Contact me through the comments feature to arrange to see this painting at my basement studio or for a quote on shipping.

It is a nice little painting and it took me a few months to paint. I was striving for a very realistic effect.

Flowers in Urn #2, Oil on Canvas

Here is a painting that was intended to be part of a pair of floral paintings in impressionist style. It is oil on 16x20 canvas. It took about several weeks to paint in my basement studio. It is done with the thick dabs of paint. The colors are warm and it is a stunning painting. I am very proud of it.

Unfortunately, I am a much better artist than I am a photographer the photo does not do the painting justice. You really must see it.

Price is only $225.00. Just get in touch with me trough the comments feature to arrange to see this at my basement studio or to arrange sale with shipping.

Lake Elkhorn Bridge. Oil on Canvas for sale by Artist

Here is a little painting I did on location of the bridge at Lake Elkhorn in Columbia MD. It is the one you see when driving by on your way to the mall. I painted this from across the spillway pond. I painted it en plein aire while standing on the grassby the dam. Lake Elkhorn is a very popular place in Columbia and very beautiful. After I painted this picture the bridge was rebuilt and made longer.

I edited out the buildings in the background so that I could make the focus on the bridge.

It is in a representational style and would be a lovely addition to the collection of any one who loves art.

The price for this is only $185.00 since I have had it in inventory for a while and I am eager to make more room for more work.  Get in touch with me to arrange to see this in my basement studio or to get a quote for shipping.

Elliots Oak Bike Path Bridges. Oil on Canvas for Sale by Artist.

I painted this on location on the bike path off of Elliots Oak Rd. in Columbia MD. Columbia has a lot of bike paths and there are many beautiful rustic bridges on them.
It is oil on 16x20 canvas.

This was painted over several days. I confess there were some buildings in the back ground that I left out in order to keep the rural flavor in the painting. It is a very lush scene.

Bridges on the Eliots Oak Bike Path.
Price $265.00 Unframed.

It is one of my favorite paintings.

Bend in the Harpers Farm Path in Columbia MD.

Here is a painting I did on location on one of the bike paths here in Columbia MD. I would walk up the path with my "little Red Wagon" behind me with all my painting supplies and my lunch to find a place for a day of painting. I had to return to this location several times to finish the picture.

This point in the path is off of Hesperius Road and leads down to Wild Lake. It is a beautiful place. The bridge is beautiful. These bridges are everywhere in Columbia. I really like them and feel they are significant in my own pilgrimage through God's purposes in my life. Beside we all have to cross bridges at different times in our lives. So I love to paint them.  I made a small "editorial" amendment to the composition; there was a garbage can that I redefined as a tree stump.

This painting is framed and ready to hang.

I am selling this painting for $275.00.  To arrange to see this, or get a quote for shipping, get in touch with me.

Still Lifewith Lemons, oil painting for sale.

Here is a 16x20 still life I painted for sale. It is painted in oil on canvas. The style is heavy brushstrokes and deep contrast with dark edges, so it is a little psychedelic in it's rendering.

I painted this in my basement studio, it took about two weeks. It is a lovely picture of a classic theme. There is a bluish lavender drapery in the background and a grey blue tea pot almost center, a heart on the rustic wall gives the picture a warmth. A clock and a creamer balances the apples on the other side. I was striving for a rustic but not a primitive picture. I believe in God's love and the heart over the simple things reminds me to remember his love and to look for the simple things while we have the time. I hope this picture of inspirational subjects is an encouragement to others.

Currently this is not available for sale, it is reserved for the Howard County Arts Counsel biannual show.

Across Wild Lake, An oil painting of Wild Lake in Columbia MD

It was pure joy to paint this scene from across Wild Lake in Columbia MD where I live.  I often thought how lovely the red roof over the dock looked in contrast to the greens and blues around it. There are several lakes with these red roofed docks in Columbia MD.  I painted this in the hot summer of 2011. I had to return to the scene on two separate days to finish this picture. It is always nice to talk to people when I paint and I met some of the nicest people when I painted this. The challenge of this picture was to paint a scene so far away and to still get recognizable detail. Since my focus was on the distant shore I had no foreground to develop so I gave a lot of texture on the ripples of water. There is some buildings behind the trees and I wanted to keep the picture simple and to maximize the little dock with the red roof so I deleated the details of the buildings and left their colors to show the presence of the structure.

My style on this picture is slightly impressionist but a little representational at the same time.

It is not a very  big picture only 11x14. I think I will have to go back and try to paint a bigger one. I do not think I had any studio time on this one and painted the entire subject on location.

Price is 150.00. Since the photo has been taken the painting has been framed in a wood frame.

Painting of Maddy's Daisies, Titled: a Family Portrait of Daisies.

This oil painting of daisies was done in the spring of 2011. I set up my easel behind my house and painted the daisies that my daughter grew from seeds some years back. I did most of the painting outdoors and just a little touch up in my studio. Anyone can paint daisies in a vase but to do it outside and the flowers just growing wild is a little frightening. You don't know how to sort out all the leaves and the many petals, then you wrestle with which flower to leave out since some are beginning to wilt.

I didn't want it to be a painting of a garden so I left out much of the environment around the flowers. The background I reduced to a colored texture to give the impression space beyond. This is almost a portrait since I was focusing on only the daisies and trying to go beyond the physical to the significance of the flowers, so I call it a family portrait.

I really loved painting this, they have all gone to seed today but the image will live on.

It is not a very big painting only 11x14 but it has a calm peaceful atmosphere that goes far beyond its boundaries.

I am offering this painting for 100.00 unframed. Contact me via the comments feature to arrange a viewing or to get a quote on shipping. Framing is extra.

Painting of the Carollion Tower at Lake Kittimundi Columbia MD

Here is a nice painting I did mostly on location and finished my studio. It is the Carollion Tower at the lake near Town Center in Columbia MD. It is painted in oil on a 16 x 20 canvas.  I painted it a couple of years ago and have had many positive comments on it. The style is a little impressionistic but still somewhat realistic.

The autumn colors on the hills in the background are balanced by the cool water colors of the lake. I confess I made the lake a little less "muddy" than it really was.  The structure on the left is a tower that has speakers mounted on the top and every hour they would play some inspirational song in bell ringing so I was getting my spirit refreshed as I was painting this piece. The structure on the right with a pagoda style roof is a stage of some sort where weddings can be held and banquets served. I thought the green was a hopeful symbol to include in this picture some sort of looking past the Autumn to a future green summer even if it was only a roof. I painted this over several weeks and had to come back more times than I care to remember, and the leaves on the yellow trees were falling off faster than I could paint them in.

I know first hand that many fellas have taken their sweethearts out under that tower to present them with a ring and propose marriage.

Since I painted this the tower has been torn down, so this is a special piece of history that is not likely to be seen again.

This painting is no longer available for sale.

Still Life With Sunflowers.

This won the blue ribbon at the Howard county fair.

My photography is not so good but my painting is stunning. It is one of my favorites. I painted this a year ago and have enjoyed it ever since; but times being what they are I am forced to sell. This is painted in oil on canvas. It is a classic still life. It is a style that is somewhat post impressionistic. It is painted in thick heavy brushstokes and has a lot of texture in the surfice; but it is not alta prima since I did a  lot of building up over time. The colors are very warm and there is a lot of drama between the cool blue of the drapery and they warmer colors. The sunflower is a popular and classic theme that invokes sentiment of hope and optimism. I am offering this for only $275.00.  it is currently in a black frame that I put on it so I could enter it in the county fair.

I have framed this picture it is ready to hang.
